Motorcyclist killed in crash on Route 61 in northern Berks
A man was pronounced dead by officials from Berks County coroner’s office following a motorcycle accident along Route 61 in Hamburg Monday morning.
Hamburg police said they were called to the scene at Route 61 and Grand Street about 11:19 a.m., and the coroner’s office was called shortly after.
Officials have yet to reveal the victim’s identity.
Police gave this account:
The motorcycle driver was traveling at a high speed along Route 61 southbound between Grand and South Fourth streets.
The driver was traveling in the passing lane and passed several vehicles while holding the motorcycle in a wheelie position.
He then cut in front of a vehicle, lost control of the motorcycle, and struck a guard rail.
No other people were injured or vehicles damaged, police said.
Police closed Route 61 southbound at Grand Street for an investigation.
