Mercury Roundup (March 29): Perk Valley BLAX runs record to 5-0 with Saturday win over Pennridge

Boys Lacrosse

Perkiomen Valley 14, Pennridge 8

Bryce Coletta scored five times and Jacob Rotay added an additional four tallies as unbeaten Perk Valley ran its record to 5-0 at Pennridge on Saturday afternoon. Patrick Moloney had two goals and five assists, with James Herb also scoring twice for the Vikings. Sullivan Roop posted a goal and an assist in the win, with Dylan Holland dishing out two assists. Christian Jones made 13 saves in goal.

Marple Newtown 10, Spring-Ford 7

Brady Welsh scored three goals and two assists but the Rams (3-1) fell just a bit short against Marple Newtown on Saturday morning to lose their first game of the season. Matt Montgomery, Braden Holland, Aiden Wixted and Colin Song also found the back of the net for Spring-Ford, which got eight saves of its own in net from Dylan Cyr. Sean Hassis won 18 of 19 face-offs for the Rams.

Strath Haven 16, Upper Merion 3

Collin McCormick, Dylan Kontra and Sean Porcello all scored for Upper Merion, who dropped to 1-4 on the season with a loss at host Strath Haven. Nathan Uhl posted nine saves in a losing effort.

SCH Academy 10, Perkiomen School 8

Trent Taylor scored three goals and Brendan Rosato added two goals and assists each, but Perkiomen fell in a close one to visiting SCH Academy. Trent Tremblay, Calen Tucker and Easton Messina tallied additional scores for the Panthers (2-2), who also received 12 saves in goal from Patrick Crist.

Girls Lacrosse

Haverford 15, Perkiomen Valley 6

Goalie Charlotte Foster made eight saves, including the 200th of her career in a non-league loss to visiting Haverford on Saturday. Alexis Keysock and Sophia Lanza had two goals apiece for the Vikings (1-5), while Holli Nuss and Julia Foley netted additional tallies.

Pleasant Valley 19, Methacton 2

Alexis Diezel and Piper Evangelista were the Saturday goal-scorers for host Methacton, which fell to 1-5 overall with the loss.

Trinity Hall (NJ) 15, Hill School 7

Softball

Owen J. Roberts 12, Exeter Township 2

Amelia Atkins went 4-for-4 with a three-run home run while pitching four strong innings for the win, allowing only one earned run on six hits with two strikeouts. Emma Brotherton doubled twice and knocked in three for the Wildcats (6-1), who got additional multi-hit efforts from Bella Winnick (2-for-4, 2RBI), Jacqueline Skonieczny (3-for-4, 3R) and Rachel Epps (2-for-4, RBI, 2R).

Mercersburg Academy 10, Hill School 8 (Game 1)

Mercersburg Academy 14, Hill School 6 (Game 2)

Despite getting swept in a season-opening doubleheader by visiting Mercersburg Academy, Hill School still managed to slug 19 hits on the day. In game one, Willow Gall doubled, homered and knocked in four runs, while Sammie Faella (2-for-3, 2RBI, R), Meghan Ward (2-for-4, 3B, R) and Adelia Chism (2-for-3, R) all recorded multiple hits.

In game two, Abby Burkhart plated three runs for Hill, while Ward, Faella and Cheyenne Flamer knocked in additional runs for the Rams.

Baseball

Bensalem 18, Norristown 6

This non-league Saturday morning contest was close through the first four innings, with Norristown and Bensalem tied at 6 before the Owls ran away with it by posting eight in the fifth and an additional four runs in the sixth. Matt Leary went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBI and two runs scored for the Eagles (2-4), while Pete VanDyne was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI of his own.

Track & Field

North Penn Open (North Penn HS):

Methacton: Eva Rojas led a strong field of Methacton competitors at the North Penn Open on Saturday, securing a third-place finish in the girls’ javelin with a distance of 103 feet. Sydney Young took fourth in pole vault (9’), as did Soleil Bond-Johnson in the long jump (16’-7.5”). Marin Wells finished two places behind Young in the pole vault (8’-6”), and Caroline Welsh also nabbed a sixth-place finish in the shot put (33’-1.25”). Juliana Trigone finished fifth in the 1600-meter run (5:39.11), and Eva Rojas was a fifth-place finisher in the 100-meter hurdles (16.20). Bhavi Patel (triple jump, 32’-8”) and Averi Greeley (javelin, 85’) both finished 10th in their respective events.

Spring-Ford: Nave’ Jacobs captured first place in the girls’ 100-meter dash in 12.07 seconds, setting the tone for a strong Spring-Ford day at the track. Ana Neatherley finished second in the 400-meter dash (59.87). Ella McLeod nabbed fifth place in the pole vault (9’), while Charlotte Chrusch secured sixth in the discus (100’-1”). Also inside the top 10 in their respective individual events were Neatherley in the 200-meter dash (eighth place, 26.38), Addisyn Feldmann in the 1600-meter run (eighth, 5:43.98) and Gaia Francis in the 1600 (10th, 5:45.27). The girls’ 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams both finished in ninth place, while the 4×800 squad placed eighth.

On the boys’ side, Justin Johnson won the long jump at 22 feet, 7 inches, while Abe McNelly was victorious in the pole vault by clearing an even 13 feet. Nasif Ataher (sixth place) and Aarav Shah (ninth) also nabbed top 10 results in the pole vault. Parker Delgado finished third in javelin (155’-1”), and Antonio Morales was fourth in discus (141’-4”). Additionally, McNelly finished eighth in the high jump (5’-10”), while Nolan Mead (seventh) and Max LaBarbera (ninth) finished inside the top 10 in the 3200-meter run. The Rams’ 4×100 relay team finished fourth, and the 4×800 group placed 10th.

Upper Merion: In the girls’ field, Jade Webb won the long jump event at 18 feet, 3.5 inches, while Rebecca O’Neil took third place in pole vault (9’). On the track, Amillyana Fawcett finished third in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes. Kennedy Coles placed second in the 200 and sixth in the 100, and Jade Webb also nabbed a top-10 finish in the 100, placing ninth. Finally, Alyssa Hepburn finished fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:01.32).

Eric Green’s win in the high jump (6’-5”) highlighted the Upper Merion boys’ day at North Penn.

Pennsylvania Track Classic (Plymouth Whitemarsh HS):

Norristown: Over at the PA Track Classic at PW, both the Norristown girls and boys had multiple first-place finishes to boast. On the girls’ end, the individual victors were: Avah Savage (800-meter run, 2:17.19), Layah Rose (100-meter hurdles, 15.40) and Jayden Phillips (discus, 80’-6”). Phillips finished runner-up in the shot put (26’-7”), as did Ziayna Shippen in the 100-meter dash (12.71), Natalia Johnson in the 200-meter dash (25.34), Makayla Goode in the 400-meter dash (1:04.67), Nylah Kindell in the 300-meter hurdles (49.15) and Johnson in the long jump (16’-4”). Additionally, the 4×400 relay team won that event in 4:03.27.

For the boys, Xavier Blackwell raced his way to a first-place showing in the 100-meter dash (11.04). Richard Matthews finished second in the 400-meter dash (49.21), while Jeremiah Laurancy took fourth in the 200-meter dash (23.09). In field events, Noah Videtsky nabbed a third-place finish in the javelin (109’-1”), while Miyanni McLean placed third in the triple jump (38’-10”) and sixth in the long jump (18’-11”).
