In high school sports it is usually the upperclassmen that rule the playing fields, as young athletes need time at the varsity level to adjust and ultimately thrive. That was not the case this just-completed high school baseball season for Great Valley sophomore shortstop Brady Housnell.
In his first season at the varsity level, Housnell clearly established himself as one of the best players in District 1 as he hit .473, scored 27 runs, knocked in 31 runs, hit four home runs and had an on-base percentage of .547 while being one of the top shortstops in the district.

It is for these lofty accomplishments that Housnell is The Daily Local News’ 2025 Baseball Player of the Year.
“I sort of knew I would have success at the varsity level because of all the hard work I put in in the off season,” Housnell said. “I did not think my numbers would be as good as they were but I knew I belonged on the field.
“And hitting in a lineup like we had, which was stacked top to bottom was a lot of fun. Everybody contributed and everyone could win a game for the team.
“I would say my goal in baseball right now is to reach the next level and compete at the Disvison 1 college level.”

Great Valley finished second in the Ches-Mont American Division and reached the District 1 6A playoffs for the first time in 10 years behind Housnell’s performance.
Patriots coach Travis Turgeon said, “Brady has been the key cog to our resurgence this season. From a baseball standpoint, he plays one of the toughest positions on the field in shortstop. His bat to ball skills and barrel awareness are his greatest strengths as a hitter. He has consistently hit the ball to all fields this season, which is why he is such a tough out and flashes some power as his two grand slams show.
“Brady is also a great leader, who, along with other players, has switched the mindset of the whole team. There are great players that put up great stats and do not have an impact as great as Brady. It has been a decade since we have been in the playoffs and Brady’s leadership is a big reason why.

“He is always positive and steady on the field, which is pivotal during the ups and downs of the season. This approach is contagious to his teammates and part of the reason we were able to have four walk off wins this season.
“He dedicates himself to all aspects the game with his preparation from a physical standpoint, and mental standpoint as well. He is a true student of the game, which will benefit him when he goes to the next level.”

Housnell took the local baseball scene by storm in his sophomore season, and there is much anticipation to see him in the next two baseball seasons at Great Valley. He is a leader on and off the field and the brightest star on the baseball diamond that we have seen in a long time.
