DLN roundup: Ryan’s Pub edges Red Men in West Chester Adult Baseball League contest
Ryan’s Pub defeated Red Men, 7-6, Sunday at Hoopes Park in West Chester Adult Baseball League action. Marc Garcia drove in four runs on two hits to lead Ryan’s Pub, slugging a three-run home run in the bottom of the first inning, and hitting an RBI single in the fifth inning to plate another. Jake Kope earned the win for Ryan’s, giving up six hits and one earned run while striking out four and walking four. Garcia earned the save.
Track and field
A number of Downingtown West High School athletes had some solid performances with the Whippets TC team at the New Balance Nationals this past weekend.
In the girls 4×100 meter relay, Simone Wilford, Elena Geanopulos, Macy McCormick and Molly Weitzman were 15th (47.64 seconds). In the boys 4×100, Rowen O’Brien, Ryan Witherspoon, Jalen Midgett and Gavin Seavey were 26th (42.22). In the boys 400 meter run, Olo Kolade was 59th (PR 48.36). In the girls 4×400, the quartet of Sophia DeAngelis, Geanopulos, Samiya Milbourne and Weitzman finished 44th (4:03.41).
In the freshman girls shot put, Kirsten Moran was 30th (31 feet, 9.25 inches). In the freshman girls 100 hurdles, DeAngelis was 41st (16.27). In the freshman girls 100 meter run, Wilford was 44th (12.61). In the freshman girls 400 meter run, Milbourne was 61st.
Downingtown West track and field coach Tracy Robinson said, “Despite some brutal heat, we did well, we showed up, and did the best we could.”
