The Mercury’s Sound Off for Thursday, Jan. 5
It remains a great mystery of life, that is, how a man driving a dump truck that kills a baby that is still in the womb can be charged with the murder of that baby, but a doctor that kills that baby, because the mother doesn’t want the baby, is just doing his job (giving the mom the “right” to choose”).

Literally thousands of illegal migrants walk into America every day. It’s been happening now for nearly two years. And the idiot in the Oval Office and his dumb-as-dirt White House Press Secretary continue to insist the border is secure. If they don’t believe the recorded videos or the live-streamed closed-circuit television broadcasts of the daily invasions, why won’t either of them actually make a visit to the border themselves?
Feeling Blue
A bus carrying migrants (illegals) was dropped off near the home of Kamala Harris before Christmas. How can that be true? Has she not stated time and time again that the southern border was secured? Where did they come from? Oh, I know. Santa gave them to her as Christmas gifts instead of lumps of coal.

The Mercury ran an article about Josh Shapiro and his Jewish heritage. Because identity politics is the lifeblood of the Democrat Party, we can now expect to be called anti-Semitic by the left if we dare criticize Shapiro’s governance. Just like anyone who criticizes Kamala is called a racist sexist. Those who criticized Hillary were called misogynists. You were called a racist if you criticized Obama. Drooling Joe’s opposers are called ageists. Dems be tripp’n!

I saw the news media doing their usual New Year’s Day clamoring about how America should come together and get along better in the coming year. I got news for ya … as long as the “Great Divider” remains in the White House, and the MSM continues to sugar-coat everything the Democrats do instead of reporting the news as it’s presented — fair, balanced, and objective, I wouldn’t look for things to change any time soon.
Greg Levengood
Have you noticed? When Democrats talk about Christmas, they always manage to avoid the use of the reason for the season: Jesus. For some reason, they can talk about Mary and Joseph, but never can they mention the baby’s name: Jesus. Maybe they are unsure of how to pronounce it.

I have to correct “Retired Guy.” For $99, you get exactly one Trump trading card, of the full set (number unknown), and don’t get to choose which. For $297, plus a transaction fee (?), you might wind up with three of his cowboy outfit. Not even going to get into the shadiness of the enterprise and owners; infringing on copyrighted material, or the disclaimers on the website about what you actually own.
God, grant me the serenity to accept the terms and conditions I do not read.
Bill Wilson
Yes sir Moderate, I finally agree with you on one thing. We could have done better in 2020. Electing Donald Trump would have been a far sight better. Not voting for Trump means you voted for Biden, and logically that makes you a Biden supporter. We didn’t have $5 a dozen eggs, $4 heating oil, or $4 gas when Trump was president. 99-cent eggs, $2 heating oil and gas would have been better. Duh!

More Great News from Washington, DC. A government shutdown is averted. Yippee! But the government will shut down every weekend, and every holiday, in fact over Christmas it will be mostly shut down for a week and a half. But even if the government “shuts down,” only 17% of the government gets shut down. It isn’t the end of the world, in fact, the world gets along just fine.
Michael Stern
Another left writer on the opinion page says that Biden would win over Trump or Desantis, is in la la land. Who in their right mind would vote for a president who has destroyed this country, from no southern borders to fentanyl deaths, to spending spending spending! Oh, and what other NATO countries are giving Ukraine billions of unaccounted-for dollars? Does anyone know? And In this newspaper are there any conservative opinion writers or cartoonists?

I strongly disagree with Med Tech and Info Depot’s position on vaccines. But I must apologize for being sucked into the trolling by “Med Depot.” In retrospect, it is clear he is trying to conflate “Med Tech” and “Info Depot” while inflaming the argument for his own entertainment. He might have gotten further with it, had he been a bit more subtle.
Giving the rich money just gives the rich money, it doesn’t help anyone else at all. And that is now born out in 40 years of data that proves it. Radical republicans have no economic policy other than trickle-down.
Patriot54
Jim Atlas, those 59% of Democrats, along with a few republicans felt an age-addled Biden was better than Trump. Hey, You still have 2024 to make the wrong choice again, provided he isn’t in prison.
The Moderate
It’s good to see Republican leaders beginning to reject US support for Ukraine. Democrats and liberals are all in for Ukraine and that means it cannot be the right policy. (And besides, their president couldn’t even bother to get dressed up properly to address our congress.) Withdrawing military and humanitarian aid will probably hurt a few people, but there are principles involved here.

She’s back. Dot didn’t tell the truth. Forgive her Lord, for she is Republican, and knows not what she says.
For everyone complaining here about border security, I hope you will take note Republicans refused to work with Democrats on the bipartisan legislation to reform immigration and border security proposed by Sen. Sinema and Tillis. Republicans killed any chance for the legislation. Our country doesn’t resolve problems when legislators’ toxic party politics are more important than fixing problems. And no, preventing the overthrow of legitimate election outcomes isn’t toxic partisanship.

The best advice we could receive these days is what Abraham Lincoln said so long ago: “Don’t believe everything you read on the internet.”

No shocker here. Billionaire Con Don not paying his fair share of Federal taxes. Then to have someone in his pocket from the IRS look the other way. Yeah, bet that IRS palms were greased with the money donated by you deniers.

Why do individuals who seek power kill innocent people? It’s history and nobody seems to care.

Elon Musk recently conducted a poll on Twitter asking users whether or not he should remain as Twitter’s CEO. Musk committed to abiding by the results of the poll. The poll ended with a majority saying he should step down. And as promised, he will do just that. The next step is that he’ll appoint Donald Trump as Twitter’s new CEO. Hospital mental wards are preparing for a tsunami of patients suffering from liberal head explosions.
The Snarky Conservative
Once my Bride said, “Did I ever tell you that you’re the most important thing in the world to me?” I said, “No, I don’t believe that you’ve ever said that.” She replied, “Then where did you ever get that idea?”
