KING OF PRUSSIA — Thanks to the Arkema Science Teachers Program when six local teachers return to the classroom this year, they will be equipped with new resources to make Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) curriculum fun for their students.

Teachers from Juniata Park Academy, Howe Academic Plus School, James R. Lowell Elementary School, Sharswood School, and Middle Years Alternative School for the Humanities completed this year’s program which took place August 1-2 at Arkema’s North America Headquarters in King of Prussia.

Arkema’s scientifically trained mentors led teachers through hands-on lessons using STEM classroom kits on topics such as forms of energy, earth and space systems, and plant and animal structures. All kits used in the program meet national science education standards and provide teachers with eight weeks of science curriculum for the upcoming school year.

Participating teachers also receive a donation to purchase additional science experiment supplies for their classrooms, as well as ongoing mentoring from the Arkema team.

“We’re living in a time of rapid innovation, and it’s critical that our educators are equipped to provide students with the knowledge and skills to compete in the future of work,” said Tony O’Donovan, President & CEO of Arkema in North America.

“At Arkema, we pride ourselves on a culture of continuous learning, so it’s always special for us to be able to interact with local teachers who are responsible for molding the minds of tomorrow. By promoting the benefits of STEM education and providing some extra support to our local schools, we’re setting up our young people for success in industries that will ultimately help make our world a better, more sustainable place.”

Since 1996, the Arkema Science Teachers Program has invested millions of dollars, benefitting hundreds of teachers and thousands of students. As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility program, Arkema is committed to giving back to the communities in which it operates, and the Science Teachers Program is a key program in the United States.
