Berks-based Gallen Insurance acquired by a York County firm

Gallen Insurance Agency, a Berks County-based insurance agency with a more than 65-year history, has been acquired by McConkey Insurance and Benefits.

The company will continue to operate from its location at 2237 Lancaster Ave. in Cumru Township and will be known as Gallen Insurance Agency — a McConkey company. Clients of Gallen Insurance Agency, which has been in business since 1957, can expect a seamless transition, the company said.

In announcing what it calls a strategic move, McConkey Insurance & Benefits, which has its headquarters in York, said the transaction illustrates the company’s “commitment to growth and its dedication to partner with agencies that align with its core values of providing exceptional customer service and serving local communities.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Gallen Insurance Agency to the McConkey family, as their dedication to exceptional service and client satisfaction aligns perfectly with our own values,” Michael Harter, president and CEO of McConkey Insurance & Benefits, said in a statement.

The company said in a release that it recognized the shared values and a mutual dedication to exceptional customer service, and identified Gallen Insurance Agency as a fit for its expansion strategy.

In a message posted on the Gallen website, the company said that with a “vision of maintaining a lasting local presence,” it had sought to collaborate with another locally owned and independently operated insurance partner, adding that the search led to the alliance with McConkey Insurance & Benefits.

“Through forming meaningful business relationships, volunteering tirelessly and supporting numerous community events, we have made a lasting impact. Our commitment to community involvement is reflected in our dedicated staff, who also share the same passion,” Ann Gallen Moll, of Gallen Insurance, said in a statement.

Gallen is the daughter of Gallen Insurance founder Joe Gallen Sr.

“Choosing to embark on this new journey alongside the McConkey team is a genuine blessing — a testament to our devotion to our staff and clients, as we continue to uphold our legacy of positive impact and service,” she said.

On its website, Gallen Insurance said the strategic partnership ensures that existing and prospective clients will “continue to receive the same level of personalized service, while gaining access to tailored insurance solutions and additional resources.”

The acquisition will allow McConkey to leverage its local expertise and resources to benefit clients in Berks, according to the release.

Gallen Insurance offers personal products for individuals, as well as commercial and benefits products for businesses.

McConkey Insurance & Benefits was founded in 1890 and is based in York County, providing insurance options for individuals and businesses as well as benefits options for businesses.
