Boyertown honors Gabel for decades of service

BOYERTOWN — Gene Gabel has been serving the Borough of Boyertown for nearly 50 years.

A life-long resident, except for a few years in the military, Gabel, 89, was both a longtime borough employee and a member of borough council.

On Tuesday evening, borough council passed a resolution honoring Gabel by renaming the Franklin Street Mini Park to the Gene Gabel Mini Park.

Gabel has lived on North Franklin Street all his life.

A resolution documenting his years of service was presented to Gabel at Tuesday night’s meeting by Council President Frank Deery along with a Proclamation from Mayor Lorraine Carnes. His wife, his children and their spouses were in attendance to help recognize this significant milestone.
