Concert previews of John Fogerty, Roger Daltrey, the Rolling Stones, more [Seven in Seven]
Welcome to Seven in Seven, where each week in this space we’ll be taking a look at shows coming to the region over the next week. As always, whether your musical tastes are rock ’n’ roll, jazz, heavy metal, R&B, singer-songwriter or indie, there will always be something to check out.
Here are seven of the best on the docket for the week of June 7:
John Fogerty + George Thorogood — Friday at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion and Saturday at The Pavilion at Montage Mountain
Ever since he acquired a majority interest of the worldwide publishing rights to the catalog of Creedence Clearwater Revival at the start of last year, John Fogerty has had every reason to celebrate. That’s the reason why “The Celebration Tour” continues to roll on, with two regional dates where the irascible frontman will be breaking out all the CCR hits. As a bonus, along for the ride is Delaware native George Thorogood, who is observing his own milestone: 50 years of rock ’n’ roll. The homefield advantage might fall in favor of Lonesome George across the river in Camden and up Route 476 in Scranton, but it’ll be an unforgettable night of hits from both legendary artists.
The Dead Daisies — Saturday at Mickey’s Black Box
Hard rock supergroup The Dead Daisies returned last month with a new song, “Light ’Em Up.” Recorded in Nashville with renowned producer Marti Frederiksen, the track is the band’s first new single since 2022 and the first with singer — and Philadelphia’s own — John Corabi since 2018. Having been a unit with a revolving door of musicians for a dozen or so years now, the Daisies bring a guitar-driven sound influenced by all the best ’70s rock ’n’ roll. Later this year will see a new record from the band, also titled “Light ’Em Up.”
Roger Daltrey — Monday at the Keswick Theatre
One of the greatest frontmen in rock ’n’ roll history is flying solo. Roger Daltrey kicks off a short run of North American shows at the Keswick on Monday night. He’ll be presenting a mostly acoustic set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises with an intimate rock-based band and setting as well as answering questions from the audience. The night will cover an impressive, nearly 60-year career with a highlight sure to be the question-and-answer aspect. Known to be one of rock’s more candid, straight shooters, the working-class Daltrey plans on sharing anecdotes and offering up uniquely tailored renditions of songs seldom performed live either by The Who or during his solo expeditions.
The Rolling Stones — Tuesday at Lincoln Financial Field
At this point, it’s not even a wonder that the Rolling Stones are still going strong 60 years and change after first getting together in London. Against all odds, be it members retiring, quitting or dying, the band continues. Frontman Mick Jagger and guitarist Keith Richards remain the foundation, with “newcomer” Ronnie Wood doing a lot of the six-string heavy lifting, a job he’s saddled with as he’s not even been on the Stones roster for five decades yet. Jokes aside, while the Linc will be filled with the sweet sounds of “Get Off of My Cloud,” “Gimme Shelter” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash,” let’s not overlook that the group put out one of the best reviewed LPs of their career last year in “Hackney Diamond.” Not only is this a unit that won’t quit, but it’s also one that is thriving and showing you’re never too old to rock ’n’ roll.
Sheppard — Wednesday, June 12, at MilkBoy
Australian pop superstars Sheppard come to town to promote their upcoming studio album, “ZORA,” which comes June 21. The new LP is the band’s fourth full-length and comes on the back of their move to Nashville. As one of Brisbane’s most successful bands of all time, Sheppard are enjoying a renaissance with recent singles lighting up charts on five continents while a new generation on social media discover the hits that have seen the sibling trio become certified 34 times Platinum and cross 2 billion streams worldwide. The intimate U.S. headline shows are also to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of their global mega-hit “Geronimo.”
Pixies + Modest Mouse + Cat Power — Wednesday, June 12, at TD Pavilion at The Mann
It’s a college rock fan’s dream night at The Mann next week as Pixies and co-headliners Modest Mouse are joined by Cat Power for a perfectly tailored lineup. The Pixies remain known as the most influential, pioneering act of the late ’80s alt-rock movement, having blazed the trail for artists from Nirvana to Radiohead to Pearl Jam with the “loudquietloud” signature sound. Meanwhile, over the past quarter century, Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock has served as indie rock’s resident backwoods philosopher, pondering his infinitesimal place in the world at large and seeking balance in a universe governed by polar opposites. And indie chanteuse Cat Power, fresh off her tour covering Bob Dylan’s 1966 live show at The Royal Albert Hall, is back to singing classics like her own “Cross Bones Style” and a timely cover of the Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction.”
Wilderado — Thursday, June 13, at Brooklyn Bowl
Tulsa, Okla., band Wilderado brings with them expansive indie rock fused with soaring vocals and rumbling guitars for an open-road, Americana-inspired feel. Since first forming, they have been steadily building a passionate fan base, accruing over 200 million streams. The current tour is to preview “Talker,” their sophomore LP set for a September release. In addition to their new studio album, Wilderado will be one of the featured artists on the soundtrack for the new “Twisters” movie out this summer. For their contribution, the band covered R.E.M.’s “Wall of Death.”
