Construction planned on Route 422 in Lower Pottsgrove Township

LOWER POTTSGROVE — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced that construction activities are planned on Route 422 under an $83.6 million project to reconstruct and improve approximately 1.7 miles of the expressway and replace bridges between the Sanatoga Interchange and Porter Road in Lower Pottsgrove.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

• Monday, April 15, through Thursday, April 18, from 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM the following morning, a lane and shoulder closure will be in place on westbound U.S. 422 between Route 724 and Route 100 for ITS (Intelligent Transportation System) installation.

• Monday, April 15, through Thursday, April 18, from 5:00 AM to 2:00 PM, a lane and shoulder closure will be in place on westbound U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard for shoulder reconstruction.

• Monday, April 15, through Thursday, April 18, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, intermittent 15-minute traffic stoppages and traffic paces will be in place in both directions on U.S. 422 between Evergreen Road and Armand Hammer Boulevard for controlled blasting.

• Monday, April 15, through Thursday, April 18, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, a lane and shoulder closure will be in place periodically on eastbound U.S. 422 between Keim Street and Evergreen Road for shoulder reconstruction.
The stoppages and paces are required for the protection of motorists and workers so crews can safely perform controlled rock blasting to excavate the area for drainage construction.

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather-dependent.

Under this Section M1B project, U.S. 422 will be reconstructed on both existing and revised alignments to improve horizontal curve radii, shoulder widths, and vertical clearance to enhance travel and safety. A culvert at Sprogels Run, located just east of Porter Road, along with an existing single-span bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Porter Road, will be removed and replaced with a new two-span bridge.

The bridge carrying U.S. 422 over Sanatoga Road and Sanatoga Creek will also be reconstructed and widened.
