by keith dmochowski

Crews contained a fire Thursday afternoon at an industrial building at 48 S. Reading Ave. in Boyertown.

Firefighters were initially dispatched about 12:25 p.m. for reports of paper materials that had caught fire within the building.

The call came from subcontractors who were using the site and were evacuating at the time of the call, according to emergency reports.

Crews arriving at the scene reported heavy smoke inside the building.

Firefighters ran a line and knocked down the initial fire within about 10 minutes of arriving, reports said.

Emergency vehicles and crews from Montgomery County assisted at the scene.

The remaining fire then spread to the roof of the building, with visible flames and heavy smoke showing from the outside of the structure.

Crews then opened the roof to ventilate it and contain the flames. The fire was placed under control shortly after 2 p.m.

Further information was unavailable Thursday afternoon.
