The Mercury’s Sound Off for Tuesday, Sept. 30

by for medianews group

I really wish Lower Pottsgrove would take action on the intersection of Buchert and Kepler Road. I have seen many accidents and near misses there. I have seen people drive right through the stop sign on Kepler and cross Buchert without stopping. Lower Pottsgrove, please consider adding stop signs on Buchert or some other means to slow people and keep us safe.

The newly transparent FBI has just revealed that more than 270 undercover FBI agents were at the January 6 protest. What were they doing there? Were they agitating? Why deploy that many agents undercover? As part of this “reveal,” it turns out that zero undercover FBI agents were deployed for the Summer of Love riots. Apparently, the FBI was only interested in Republican protests.

Earth to Upper Pottsgrove Township offices, did you ever hear of dehumidifiers? They are a fantastic new invention that was first built in 1902. And have you ever heard of roofing contractors? They are wonderful folks who fix leaking roofs. Of course, if you prevent moisture build-up and leaks, you won’t need to spend (waste) taxpayer money on a new Taj Mahal.

I think it’s hilarious that the same people mostly write into Sound Off to complain about inflation since Trump was re-elected. Where were your complaints when Biden was President and inflation was 3-4 times higher than it is today? Could it be TDS?

Jay Miller, the government is taking money away from universities that teach hate for this country and Israel and have endowments of millions. The 10 Commandments aren’t in schools, show me, and kids today don’t know what that is. Most newspapers are left and don’t give the other side, and Kimball wasn’t funny when promoting Kirk’s killing! It’s time conservatives start calling the left out, to stop their hate!

I feel horrible for the seniors at the Village of Willow Run.. This is life in MAGA time. With the disabling of the CFPB and other GOP actions that hurt consumers, this is only the tip of the iceberg. You all voted for it, so now we all have to suffer! So glad you are all making the billionaires richer with the tax cuts that the BBB gave them. Inflation will continue to go up faster than Trump’s bank balance.

Democrats are responsible for all the violence we are seeing. The vile rhetoric they spewed was purposely done, hoping some nitwit would lose their minds and commit these heinous atrocities. Yes, Democrats, you have blood on your hands; you people are murderers, vile, hateful, gangsters, corrupt, evil and greedy.

Funny how the FBI is suddenly coming up with all these files from years ago that just happen to fit Trump’s preferred narrative and reality. (rolling my eyes) He’s committing impeachable offenses almost daily now.

Cleaning up decades of waste, fraud, and abuse in the SNAP program is no easy task — so Democrats have ignored it for generations. Their lack of vision and leadership speaks for itself. Now, instead of offering solutions, they attack the Big Beautiful Bill out of spite. That’s not constructive — it’s just sour grapes from a party that’s been benched for a reason.

Here is a summary of Trump‘s address to the United Nations: All of your countries are failures, the United States is the best country in the world, I take all the credit, I’m the best leader in the world, climate change is a hoax, and you all fell for it, I deserve the peace prize.

Jay Miller

Afghanistan was once a Buddhist nation. Pakistan was once Hindu, and Lebanon was Christian. Muslims conquered all. Europe is next.

Jimmy Kimmel’s big “comeback” isn’t looking so big after all. Just 3 days back on the air, and his ratings have already crashed by 70%. Jimmy and the networks thought he’d be a free speech martyr and that people on the left and right would tune in 10x more out of curiosity, but instead, viewers are tuning out in record numbers. Turns out, America doesn’t want his bitterness, his hypocrisy, or his tired routine.

It has gotten to the point where I can’t even stand to hear Donald Trump speak. Every day it’s the same old rhetoric. Nothing is being done about grocery prices, Gas prices, jobs, inflation, etc. Next year, Health Insurance rates are set to skyrocket because of Trump’s big beautiful bill. Historians are saying that Trump will be recorded as the worst political mistake this Country has ever made. God help us!

In a shock to nobody, the Democratic Party managed to limbo under its own already abysmal reputation this week. According to the latest Quinnipiac poll, just 30% of voters nationwide have a favorable view of the party, while a brutal 54% gave it the thumbs-down. That’s not just bad; it’s historically bad, marking the worst score the Dems have clocked since Quinnipiac started tracking this in 2008. Congrats, team — a new low unlocked!

In April, local Rep Madeleine Dean tearfully announced her fear that she and her son could be “disappeared” (i.e., deported) by the Trump administration because they have tattoos. Six months later, Dean is still here … spouting her anti-Trump disinformation.

Trump’s executive order on protecting free speech, titled “Restoring Freedom of Speech and Ending Federal Censorship” (E.O. 14149), was signed on January 20, 2025. It alleges that the prior administration used substantial pressure on social media companies to suppress speech. The order asserts that this censorship advanced the government’s “preferred narrative” and is “intolerable in a free society”. It seems that Trump’s reading comprehension skills are lacking, but then what else is new?

Joe Frank

Listening to Trump trying to pronounce “acetaminophen” was funny. After four attempts, he gave up. Donnie Dementia, can you say “cat” or “dog”? We’ll wait. But you only get three tries for these easy ones.

Wake up, America. You have had a wonderful life compared to other Nations. You elected a cancer called me. Cure or die.

My wife says I apologize like Jimmy Kimmel … I don’t think she meant it as a compliment.

The leaves are beginning to fall from the trees. I’ve always believed that raking leaves is Mother Nature’s way to get us in shape for shoveling snow.
