Members 1st celebrates CU Kindness Week

Members 1st Federal Credit Union added a dimension to the first-ever CU Kind Day held on Oct. 9 — an initiative held in partnership with CrossState Credit Union Association, and other credit unions across Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

Instead of just one day, Members 1st decided to expand the initiative for a full week, designating the week before — Oct. 2 through Oct. 6 — as Kindness Week.

“Service is a core element of the social mission of all credit unions, and each day we are proud to carry out our own mission of serving our members, associates and communities through support, empowerment and meaningful relationships,” Mike Wilson, Members 1st president & CEO, said in a statement. “It is so very heartwarming to see and hear all of the impactful ways our faM1ly was ‘CU Kind’ during our inaugural Kindness Week.”

Members 1st’s week-long celebration featured several initiatives. Among them was a Random Acts of Kindness Challenge where Members 1st associates shared photos and stories as well as “Kindness Cards” that featured messages of encouragement.

The credit union also provided a $1,221 donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA in honor of all of the credit union’s 1,221 associates that participated in Kindness Week.

The planned one day of kindness concept started at a credit union in Minnesota and has continued and expanded to credit unions across the country, this year involving Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The celebration is intended for credit union associates, members, volunteers and community partners to come together and do one simple thing — spread kindness.

Members 1st operates nearly 60 branch locations across nine Pennsylvania counties, including Berks. The Berks locations are in Exeter, Cumru and South Heidelberg townships.
