Mercury Roundup (Dec. 2): Hayes, Shumaker lead Methacton to 3rd place at Pottstown Invitational
WRESTLING
Pottstown Invitational
Ryan Hayes and Matty Shumaker were individual champions to help Methacton place third as a team at the Pottstown Invitational Saturday.
Hayes was champ at 133 and Shumaker at 160 while Gabe Franks was second place at 285.
La Salle, with four champions, won the team title.
Pottsgrove had a pair of wrestlers make the third-place matches with Gabe Constanzo placing third at 114 and Jake Palladino finishing fourth at 189.
Rough Rider Invitational
Upper Perkiomen placed second as a team at the Rough Rider tournament at Catasauqua High School on Dec. 2.
The Tribe had six place in the top 3 of their weight class, led by Gabriel Tulone (2nd at 114), Branden Rozanski (2nd at 139), Gabe Sanfelice (2nd at 145), Sean Murray (3rd at 127), Brandon Godshall (3rd at 133) and Zane Saeger (3rd at 152).
Solanco Mule Classic
Mason Richards championship at 189 pounds helped Spring-Ford to a fifth-place finish at the Solanco Mule Classic on Dec. 2.
Connor Hudak took second at 285 for the Rams and Jamie Silva was fourth at 152.
Battle at Germantown
The Hill School finished fourth in the team standings at Germantown Academy Saturday. Top performers were Cole Albert (144) and Zak Zindle (190), who placed second in their weight classes.
Five other Blues competed in the third place matches with Robert Pavlek (138) and Dante Donaldson (215) taking third and Conlan Boyer (150), Henry Ritts (157) and Brody Brunner (285) settling for fourth.

Pottsgrove 61, Downingtown East 40
Pottsgrove started its season in style with a pair of convincing wins as hosts of the Pottsgrove tip-off tournament.
The Falcons saw all 11 players score points against D-East with Deymein Doctor’s 15 leading the charge.

Daniel Boone got its first win with another big outing from Brendan Gaines (26 points, five 3s) over undermanned Pottstown at the Pottsgrove tournament.
Fred Lacey (12) and Matthew DiGiacomo (10) also were in double figures for Boone.
Jurrell Young scored 24 for the Trojans, who struggled at the free-throw line going 6-for-21.

Hill (4-1) lost for the first time this season, fading in the second half against Navy’s second team. Aivaras Uosis led Hill with 15 points on a nice mix of baskets. Jacob Meachem added 14 in the loss.
