BOYS BASKETBALL

Spring-Ford 52, State College 44: Spring-Ford won the Skip Coleman Memorial Tournament in State College with a title game win over the host team on Saturday. The victory was the 250th of head coach Joe Dempsey’s career.

Matt Zollers scored a team-high 15 points and Jacob Nguyen netted 14 for the Rams, who took control in the second half after trailing 27-24 at halftime.

Zollers and Tommy Kelly were named to the all-tournament team.

Julius Marshall caught fire in the third quarter with 14 of his 18 points and Pottsgrove cruised past Oley Valley on Dec. 9. Gabe Rinda scored all 11 of his points in the first quarter while Deymein Doctor and Kamal Curry added eight apiece for the Falcons.

Boyertown dominated the first half (26-13) and got 22 points from Braedyn Johnson in a non-league win over Daniel Boone on Dec. 9.

Trey Kern netted 13 and Ryan Thompson 10 for the Bears. Brendan Gaines scored all 23 of his points in the second half for the Blazers.

Methacton (2-1) dropped a close contest to host Lower Merion in the Scholastic Play By Play Classic held at Lower Merion.  Sal Iemmello scored 23 points and was named the game MVP for the Warriors.  Alex Hermann contributed 15 points while Christian Matos added 13.

OJR couldn’t hold on to an eight-point lead in the third quarter, ultimately falling to 2-1 against Quakertown. The Wildcats were led by Luke Fryer with 21 points and Elijah Cline with 15.

Kyle Shawaluk had 30 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and three steals to lead Perk Valley to a win at the City of Basketball Love showcase Saturday. Julian Sadler finished with a 20-point, 12-rebound double-double PV.

Owen J. Roberts 61, Collegium Charter 40

Asya Price netted 26 points and was named to the all-tournament team after leading Owen J. Roberts to victory in the consolation game at the OJR Tip-Off tournament Saturday.

Abby Smith scored 15 for OJR, which scored 23 first-quarter points.

WRESTLING

Brian Bealer Memorial Boyertown Duals: Boyertown and Owen J. Roberts finished 4-1 at the Boyertown Duals Saturday. Fellow PAC team Perkiomen Valley went 3-2.

Easton went 5-0 as the lone undefeated team at the event.

For Owen J. Roberts, Dean Bechtold, Dillon Bechtold, Sam Gautreau and Brady Quinn went 5-0 on the day. Boyertown’s Shane Stankina, Gavin Sheridan and Andrew Myslinksi went 5-0 for the Bears.

PV had three wrestlers go unbeaten, Luke Knox, Patrick Lamirande and Carter Euker.

 

Chuck Springer Memorial Duals: At Norristown, Pottsgrove went 2-1 with wins over Norristown adn Lower Merion. The Falcons’ Mohamed Bouzenbila went 3-0.

 

Penn Manor Tournament: Hill School’s Cole Albert won the 145-pound title Saturday at Penn Manor. Albert downed Logan McFarland of Washington (W.Va.), 6-2, in the weight class final.

Dante Donaldson took third at 215 and Robert Pavlek fourth at 139 for Hill.

Upper Perkiomen’s Brandon Godshall and Branden Rozanski placed second in their weight classes at the Penn Manor to help the Tribe to an eighth-place team finish Saturday.

Godshall was second at 133 and Rozanski second at 139. Other medalists for UP were Gabriel Tulone (third at 114), Sean Murray (5th at 127) and Ben Godshall (7th at 121).

 

Springside Chestnut Hill Invitational: Pope John Paul II got runner-up finishes from Brady Pires and Gianni Ponzio at the 15-team tournament Saturday.

Pires was second at 120 and Ponzio second at 132 to help the Golden Panthers to a sixth-place team finish.

Antonio Ponzio (138) and Colton Sinkbeil (215) placed third.
