Mercury roundup (Sept. 11): Marciano supplies fantastic finish for Perkiomen Valley girls soccer in win over Upper Perkiomen

GIRLS SOCCER

Perkiomen Valley 2, Upper Perkiomen 1

Highlights: Giavanna Marciano supplied a fantastic finish to Monday night’s rematch of last season’s Pioneer Athletic Conference championship game, scoring the game-winning goal with 12.3 seconds to play to lift Perk Valley past Upper Perk in a PAC crossover match Monday night.

Marciano’s winner, assisted by Brianna Young, was her second of the game. She opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, assisted by Rylee Rosati. Upper Perk leveled it in the 46th minute, Peyton Lill scoring from a rebound from a Megan Cairns’ shot.

Olivia Hulayew made five saves for PV while Ava Long supplied nine for Upper Perk.

Daniel Boone 3, Berks Catholic 1

Highlights: Anna Buckwalter put away two goals and assisted another in a win for the Blazers. Sophia Hogan also scored for Daniel Boone while Maggie Holloway tallied a pair of assists. Ally Devine scored Berks Catholic’s lone goal and Sarah Gatz made six saves in net. Rece Golab also had six saves for the Blazers.

Owen J. Roberts 3, Great Valley 1

Highlights: Emerson Storti scored a pair of second-half goals to propel OJR past Great Valley in a non-league matchup Monday. Great Valley gained an early lead, but OJR tied it 6:17 before halftime.

Storti then found the scoresheet twice in the second half, first five minutes in (assisted by Abby Kabach), then sealed it with 12:25 to play unassisted.

Pottsgrove 1, Upper Merion 1

The Falcons and Vikings shared the points in a PAC Frontier matchup Monday. Emma Gonzalez scored from a fantastic feed from Kayla Petri for Pottsgrove’s goal.

BOYS SOCCER

Fleetwood 2, Daniel Boone 1 (OT)

Highlights: David Millisock scored the game-winner in the first minute of overtime. Josh Avila had Fleetwood’s other goal. Zeke Rojas scored for the Blazers, who were outshot 9-7. Tucker Griffin had seven saves for Daniel Boone.

Upper Merion 2, Pottsgrove 1

Highlights: Elijah Mohamed scored the Falcons’ goal and Ryan smith registered 11 saves.

Downingtown West 1, Spring-Ford 0

FIELD HOCKEY

Spring-Ford 4, Phoenixville 2

Highlights: Maddie Friend scored a hat trick – all unassisted goals – for the Rams in a PAC crossover win. Nina Scott added a goal on an assist from Marissa Cagliola as Spring-Ford outshot Phoenixville 19-6.

Natalia Thomas scored on a feed from Maggie Daily in the third quarter to put the Phantoms on the board and Maggie Daily added another. The Rams had 11 corner opportunities to Phoenixville’s six. Norah Kirsch registered four saves in net for Spring-Ford. Corinne Bull had 15 saves for the Phantoms.

Methacton 3, Pope John Paul II 0

Highlights: Three different players scored for the Warriors while six had a hand in Methacton’s scoring altogether. Lily DeWan, Elena Weychert and Ceci Rehak each found the back of the net while Renee Blake, Carmela Maro and Lea DeWan tallied assists. Ava Parkinson had 17 saves for the Warriors, who held a 15-0 advantage in corner opportunities.

Abby Simmers (two saves) and Tess Riley (one save) led the Golden Panthers’ defensive efforts and Ava Parkinson had 28 saves.

Highlights: Kristen Brown led the Phantoms with five kills. Kailey Hudy tallied 11 assists, four digs and served an ace. Olivia Jacketti logged four kills with three aces and a block. Gianna Buce made four digs with two aces and Zoe Monson served four aces with three digs.
