Pottstown Dance Theatre bringing back ‘The Nutcracker’

The Pottstown Dance Theatre Repertory Ensemble brings back their holiday classic “The Nutcracker” to Boyertown High School on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 10 at 2 p.m.

They are adding two sections. Under the direction of international dance artist Michelle Jones Wurtz, the production will include an extended battle scene and a new moment entitled “Clara’s Conflict,” inspired by the legendary dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov.

The experience will be a treat for the entire family.

One of the reasons “The Nutcracker” is a family favorite is the inclusion of dances from various cultures, particularly in the second act.

There is dance with a Spanish flare, Eastern European flare, Swiss, Chinese and even Middle Eastern, making something for every taste and background.

Kelsey Nieckoski Noble has added choreography in various parts and will be performing support roles throughout the production.

Lucy Boone and Haley Iannarino will be sharing the lead role of Clara as well as the Nutcracker, and Teagan Lee and Holly Lucas will be performing roles such as Sugar Plum Fairy and Snow Queen.

The entire production features only local talent. Pottstown Dance Theatre (PDT) has trained their dancers so well, roles normally given to paid guest artists are given to the talented students.

They are the only local productions that receives funding from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts.

Their former dancers now perform professionally in Cleveland, in Houston and many in Philadelphia. This is a professional level production with local prices for the audience.
