Despite being a primary destination for books, the Pottstown Regional Public Library will have a full range of offerings geared toward adults in October that can enrich one’s social and physical well-being.

“We have a really full calendar for October,” said Megan Bealer, the library’s adult programming coordinator.

On Oct. 6 and Oct. 20, you can join an adult craft session that typically draws up to seven people and centers on a seasonal craft. Held every other Friday from 1 to 2:30 p.m., during their most recent session held last week participants did an activity based on the paper crafting of fall leaves.

“We’ll be making a gift box with paper and fall leaves will be adhered to it,” said Bealer. “We will also be doing an envelope and greeting card with the same embellishment.”

Every Friday from 10 a.m. to noon, you can engage in the popular tile-based game of Mahjong.

“This is something that brings a dedicated small group of people together in a nice quiet place who like to play Mahjong together,” she said.

Adult yoga class

On the second Tuesday of every month from 6 to 7 p.m. the library will be resuming their adult yoga class offering on Oct. 10.

“It was popular and we are very excited to be able to bring back yoga regularly,” Bealer said.

Up to 10 participants regularly attended each yoga session over the summer.

“They really enjoyed it and wanted to continue it,” she said.

Outside of the confines of their building, the library will be making use of their lawn for an event on Saturday, Oct. 14.

“For the annual solar eclipse we are handing out safe solar viewing glasses,” Bealer said. “We’ll have a viewing party on our lawn from 1 to 2:30 p.m. that day since that’s when it’s viewable.”

Emotional health and welfare

Also coming up next month are two seminars offered by the TriCounty Community Network. Both geared towards seniors, the live-streamed workshops being held at the library are one hour in length.

“We’ll be offering Financial Scams and Targeting on Oct. 17 at 1 p.m. and Emotional Health and Welfare on Oct. 24 at 1 p.m.,” she said. “There will be a Q&A at the end and light refreshments.”

While kids usually get to have all the Halloween fun, the library has something special in store for their adult patrons. The after-hours event being held on Friday, Oct. 20, at 6 p.m. also serves as a fundraiser for the library.

“We’re offering a murder mystery scavenger hunt,” Bealer said. “It will be $20 per person and space is limited.”

The searchable areas for the hunt will be focused on the main floor and balcony. Also taking place that night is a paranormal investigation of the library’s attic space as well as a local medium doing card readings. All activities, except for the scavenger hunt, are free after you pay the suggested $5 donation entry fee for the evening..

“There will also be a ghost painting activity, refreshments and apple cider,” she said.
