Roundup (April 5): Upper Perkiomen stuns Phoenixville with 6-run ninth to steal 9-8 win on Bugman’s bases loaded walk-off triple

BASEBALL

Upper Perkiomen 9, Phoenixville 8

Upper Perkiomen stunned the Phantoms with a six-run bottom of the seventh inning, walking off a thrilling PAC Frontier victory on a bases loaded triple by shortstop Isaac Bugman. Owen Williams collected two hits and three runs from the leadoff spot, while Jack Schramm went 1-for-3 with 2 RBI while earning the win in relief for the Indians. Other Upper Perk contributions came from Brody Weiss (2-for-4, R, RBI) and Evan Sands (1-for-4, R, 2 RBI), while Aidan Keyser and Cole Pierce were also effective on the mound in the win.

Nico Nattle pitched the first four frames for Phoenixville, allowing two hits and two unearned runs with seven strikeouts, but things unraveled for Phantoms reliever Christian Cervino in the seventh. Kevin Kingsbury and Sam Marsh each went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI atop the Phoenixville lineup.

Perkiomen Valley 4, Spring-Ford 2

Ryan Murphy hit a go-ahead two-run double to break a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning and Mike Strechay set the table atop Perk Valley’s lineup with a 3-for-4 performance along with a run and RBI in a thrilling PAC Liberty triumph. Conner Fitzpatrick and Liam McNeill yielded just six hits and an earned run on the mound for PV to go with one walk and six strikeouts.

David Ruckman and Aidan Dunleavy knocked in runs for the Rams. Dominic Ruggiero and Andrew Wible teamed up to strike out 11 Perk Valley batters in their six innings of work.

Pottsgrove 17, Pottstown 0

Carter Burg’s 4-for-5, five-RBI afternoon fueled a high-powered Pottsgrove offense in a crosstown PAC Frontier win that lasted five innings over Pottstown Friday.

Brandon McGinley (RBI) and Gabe Rinda (2 RBI) were both 3-for-4 for the Falcons, who scored at least three runs in every inning.

Three Pottsgrove pitchers combined on a no-hitter: Rogers and Bainbridge had two innings each and Burg struck out the side in the fifth.

Pope John Paul II 10, Upper Merion 2

PJP pitchers Luke Terlesky and Blake High teamed up to strike out 13 Upper Merion batters while allowing just one earned run and three walks between them in a PAC Frontier battle. Dylan Simeone was 2-for-3 with a double, three stolen bases and two RBI, while TJ Boccella went 1-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and four stolen bases for the Golden Panthers. PJP stole 17 bases as a team and drew eight walks. Teddy Walmsley and Nick Varano each went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the losing effort for Upper Merion.

Methacton 12, Norristown 0

Methacton improved to 4-0 on the season with a convincing PAC Liberty shutout over Norristown, with Will Christian and Evan Jones teaming up to allow four singles and one walk while striking out 10. The Warriors offense had 11 hits, including six doubles by six different players. Nick Remish (2-for-3, 2b, 2R), Chase McNally (2-for-3, 2b, 2R, RBI) and Kasey Humes (2-for-3, 2b, 3RBI) all produced multi-hit efforts in the victory.

SOFTBALL

Boyertown 9, Owen J. Roberts 7

A five-run fourth inning allowed Boyertown to overcome a rocky start against Owen J. Roberts to earn an early-season PAC Liberty victory Friday.

Ella Hurter was 3-for-4 with a home run and RBI, helping her own cause after lasting 1.1 innings in the circle (2 hits, 5 runs, 3 ER, 5 BB). Hailey Schildt had a triple in a 2-for-4, three RBI game to bolster the Bears’ attack.

Liza Flavin starred for OJR going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI.

Amelia Atkins was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI but took the pitching loss (4 IP, 8 H, 3 ER). Five OJR errors led to five unearned runs for Atkins.

Kyra Neiswender settled things for the Wildcats, allowing three runs over 5.1 innings and striking out five. She also had two hits.

Upper Merion 14, Pope John Paul II 13

The Vikings outlasted PJP in a PAC Frontier slugfest that featured a combined 27 runs and 23 hits. Molly Gilliland went 2-for-5 with a 3-run homer and 2-run triple for Upper Merion, while Vikings pitcher Rory Edge made it through four innings in the pitching circle while only allowing three runs.

Most of the damage in PJP’s lineup came from four bats — Abby Simmers (3-for-4, 3b, 2R), Molly Houchins (2-for-5, 2 3B, 3RBI, 2R), Kelly Murphy (3-for-4, 2 2b, RBI, 2R) and Sophia Benincasa (2-for-5, 2R).

Spring-Ford 9, Perkiomen Valley 5

The Rams scored three runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth, racing out to a seven-run advantage and holding on from there in a PAC Liberty showdown at Perk Valley. Ally Burgess went 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI for the Rams, and Spring-Ford also got multi-hit efforts from Addie Eross (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, 2R), Riley Gancasz (3-for-4, 2B, R), Autumn Eck (2-for-3, 2B, R, 2RBI) and Kayla Naylor (2-for-3, R). Jess Fliszar pitched a complete game for the Rams, allowing four runs on five hits while punching out 10.

Maci Strechay went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored for Perk Valley while also pitching the first four innings for the Vikings, striking out four. Bella Reedy added two hits and an RBI for PV.

Methacton 13, Norristown 2

The Warriors scored at least one run in all five innings they came to bat, led by the thunderous bats of Jillian McTamney (4-for-4, 2 2B, 3R, RBI) and Mia Pettine (3-for-4, 2B, HR, 2R, 5RBI). Courtney Freese and Adriana Hopple combined to go five innings in the pitching circle for Methacton, allowing two runs on four hits to help deliver a PAC Liberty victory.

Upper Perkiomen 15, Phoenixville 3

Upper Perk smashed 16 hits and posted multiple runs in four different innings in a dominant show of force against a PAC Frontier rival. Darby Gasda went 2-for-4 with two RBI from the leadoff spot for the Indians, who also got multi-hit performances from Kristina Molnar (3-for-5, 3B, 2R) and Ryan Berg (2-for-3, 2R). Elizabeth Proctor, Riley Eden and Jenna Langenback all knocked in two runs, and Erin Gray pitched six strong innings for UM, allowing one run on six hits with eight strikeouts.

Katie Clarke was 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and Alina Rakowski went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI in the losing effort for the Phantoms.

Pottsgrove 15, Pottstown 0

Mikayla Eckman had three hits and five RBI and threw four innings of three-hit shutout softball to lead Pottsgrove to victory over Pottstown in a PAC Frontier contest Friday.

Pottsgrove put up eight first inning runs due to control issues for the Pottstown starter.

BOYS LACROSSE

Spring-Ford 16, Interboro 6

Gavin Roth, Preston Page and Brady Welsh contributed to at least four goals each as Spring-Ford handled Interboro in a PAC contest Friday.

Roth scored five, Welsh had three goals and an assist and Page had a goal and an assist.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Spring-Ford 12, Phoenixville 11

Hailey Mozi (2A, 10DC) and Lindsay Evak (5DC) each scored three times in a thrilling PAC win for Spring-Ford. Riley Czapor (2G, A, DC, CT), Gianna DiBattista (CT) and Megan Ruckman (2A) all added two goals apiece, and Ilyana Jones notched 12 saves in goal for the Rams.

Perkiomen Valley 17, Upper Perkiomen 9

The Vikings rode a six-goal first quarter to a convincing PAC victory over Upper Perkiomen, with Leah Pfeiffer leading the offensive charge with five goals and an assist. Holli Nuss (4G, A, 2GB, 2DC), Grace Shaffner (3G), Lindsay Farrington (2G, A) and Julia Foley (2G, A, 1GB, 3DC) all contributed multi-goal games for Perk Valley, with Alexis Keysock also finding the back of the net in the win. Charlotte Foster made 10 saves in goal for the Vikings.

Abby Davidheiser (5G, 7DC, 4GB) led the charge in the loss for Upper Perk, while Mia Schneider (2G), Maggie Milkowich and Sarah Fisher also scored.

Pottsgrove 18, Norristown 8

Pottsgrove turned a tie score at halftime into a second-half round in a PAC victory over Norristown. Christine Hires led the Pottsgrove charge with six goals, and Vivian Kyler chipped in five scores and five draw controls apiece. Emily Sorg scored three times and chipped in six draw controls, while Josie Wyatt and Abby Young had a pair of scores each. Kylie Willis and Maddie Miller each made two saves in goal for Pottsgrove.

Kayla Rivera scored a game-high six goals for Norristown, with teammate Alex Carpenter notching the other two.

Boyertown 17, Upper Merion 6

Alina Friz led a potent Boyertown attack with five goals and three assists, and she got help from Kamryn Pier, Jordyn Diffenderfer and Hannah Adamski, who scored three goals apiece for the Bears. Adison Harner (goal, assist) and Reagan Harner (goal, two assists) also found the back of the net. Adamski added 10 draw controls, and Teagan Tyson made 10 saves in net for the Bears.
