Sabrina Carpenter gives Bala Cynwyd a shoutout after Grammy win [Video]
Sabrina Carpenter won her first Grammy Awards on Sunday, and gave a shout-out to a Bala Cynwyd music studio while doing so.
Carpenter, 25, who was born in Quakertown, Bucks County, and grew up in Lower Milford Township, Lehigh County, won the Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album for “Short n’ Sweet” at the 67th Grammy ceremonies Sunday night. Earlier in the day, she also won Best Pop Solo Performance for “Espresso.”
The pop star was nominated in a few other categories, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.
Carpenter, who also performed at Sunday’s show, said while accepting her first Grammy for “Short n’ Sweet,” that she was not expecting to win.
“Thank you for the Recording Academy for having me and having everyone here tonight in celebration and in honor of everything that’s happened,” she said. “I feel so lucky to be able to come together and do something so special and beautiful and celebrate music.”
She thanked her family, and specifically called out her mom for taking her to every voice lesson in Bala Cynwyd in Montgomery County.
Carpenter took voice lessons at the Rita Cavell Music Studio in Bala Cynwyd, according to reporting from the Narberth-Bala Cynwyd Patch. That studio is located on Conshohocken State Road in Bala, and Rita’s daughter and studio owner Kathy Gravina-Cavell has posted about Carpenter’s several times, including noting a photo Carpenter posted in 2018 that showed a much younger Sabrina wearing a pink suit and cowboy hat “at our studio with some of Rita’s precious bunny collection in the background (and her favorite chair)” inside the Cavell Studio.
On Monday, after the Grammys, Kathy returned the singer’s shout-out: “Yes…we are over the moon about the two Grammy Awards Sabrina Carpenter picked up last night!! She is so deserving of the recognition and we are thrilled for her entire beautiful family. They are very special people in our lives and we cherish the history we have with them. Her shout out to the studio brought me (and others) to tears.”
The former “Girl Meets World” star, who once headlined Bethlehem’s Musikfest, released “Short n’ Sweet” in August. It’s been on Billboard’s Top 200 for more than 20 weeks now.
