Samtec Inc. opens new manufacturing facility in Limerick

LIMERICK — Samtec Inc., a global leader in the design and manufacturer of electronic interconnect solutions, has expanded into Montgomery County. The company this week announced the opening of its newest manufacturing facility, 690 Enterprise Drive in Limerick.

The facility specializes in the production of coaxial cables and RF connectors, serving industries that include aerospace/defense, medical device, Datacom, automotive, computer semiconductor, instrumentation, and consumer electronics.

“This new manufacturing plant will provide robust product and technology solutions for our customers. Opening this new facility reinforces Samtec’s continued dedication to stay at the forefront of technological advancements in the interconnect industry,” Samtec CTO Brian Vicich said in a statement.

In an emailed response to questions, Samtec said planning for the expansion and a property search began in September 2021. The 24,000-square-foot space was retrofit to meet Samtec’s needs and officially opened in April of this year. It is staffed by 15 employees, including six engineers and nine operations employees the company said “bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the production process.”

“Montgomery County is kind of a hot spot for precision manufacturing. Samtec wanted to be located close to this skilled workforce,” the company said in its emailed response.

This state-of-the-art facility is the latest addition to Samtec’s manufacturing network, which includes more than 40 global locations. It is the company’s first location in Montgomery County, but its third in Pennsylvania — Samtec has operations in Mechanicsburg and Erie.

The new location has manufacturing, new product development and testing/validation, the company said in its response, adding that while final assembly doesn’t always occur at this location, the plant will support product value of an estimated $50 million per year.

The new manufacturing site is developing next-generation precision RF cable assemblies that offer improved stability and flexure over time and address common industry concerns of phase length, delay, loss and shielding effectiveness, the company said in a press release. Colored in distinctive Samtec orange, this family of three new RF cables aims to balance application with cost sensitivities. In addition to the new Limerick facility, Samtec cables will also be manufactured at the company’s Wilsonville, Ore. plant.

Samtec products are typically used to connect high frequency communication systems or high data rate communications: Radar systems, satellite systems, and supercomputers, for example.

The company said it will need at least 50 employees to fully staff the Limerick facility, adding that job creating and hiring will come in waves.
