Stahl’s Pottery Festival coming to Zionsville on June 15
ZIONSVILLE — For 37 years, Stahl’s Pottery has celebrated the art of Pennsylvania German redware at the pottery site at 6826 Corning Road.
The 37th Annual Summer Pottery Festival, held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, on Saturday, June 15, features tours of the site, sale of contemporary pottery, and food.
Admission is $5 per person; those under 18 are free and parking is free.
Learn about the production of redware pottery by Charles Stahl and his descendants, Thomas, Isaac, and Russell Stahl. Tour the clay storage room and the workroom where the potters labored from 1934 to 1956. See the round, stone, beehive, wood-fired kiln where pieces were fired. Inside the house museum discover unique pieces of Stahl’s Pottery as well as family furnishings and traditions.
View and purchase work by 32 potters — hats, T-shirts, books, and an assortment of redware ornaments, including a new ornament for 2024. Turning on the wheel and raku firing will be demonstrated throughout the day, and there will be a drawing to win a piece of handmade pottery.
Visit the Thomas and Alice Stahl house to view a collection of redware pottery made on the site by Thomas, Isaac, and Russell Stahl.
In 1987, descendants of Thomas Stahl purchased Stahl’s Pottery site and formed a non-profit organization, Stahl’s Pottery Preservation Society Inc., and have been holding an annual pottery festival ever since. The goal of the Society is to preserve the historic site known as Stahl’s Pottery and to educate visitors about the art of Pennsylvania German redware pottery.
All funds raised at the Festival are used for the preservation and interpretation of the site.
