BOYERTOWN — Friends, family and martial arts students gathered recently at Ellixson’s Tae Kwon Do Academy on East Philadelphia Avenue to honor the memory of a good friend and enthusiastic student of the academy: Cole Moser.

Cole passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, at age 7.

It was an evening of mixed emotions as the first Cole Moser Scholarship was awarded.

Cole’s parents, Sheena and Andrew Moser, created the scholarship as a way to honor their son’s memory. Cole had achieved several belts while a student at Ellixson’s. He had also been awarded a plaque last year for one of the highest attendance records.

When Cole passed away unexpectedly earlier this year, he was posthumously awarded an honorary blackbelt angel from Master Donnie Ellixson, Jr, who runs the academy.

The Cole Moser Scholarship was created by the family to support another young person on their martial arts journey.  Candidates were nominated based on based on effort, attendance, spirit, manners and academic achievement. The Ellixson’s staff narrowed it down to five finalists and the Mosers made the final selection: Elliot Patton.

Like Cole was, Elliot is a 7-year-old Mighty Mite at the Academy. The two boys attended many classes together and had been good friends.

“Our students and their parents are like family,” Elixson said. “We hope the Mosers will follow Elliot’s progress and continue to feel like a part of the Ellixson’s Tae Kwon Do family for many years to come.”
