POTTSTOWN – Steel River Playhouse, 245 E. High St., presents its comedy production of “The Cake,” running Feb. 9 through Feb. 18.

“I am so excited to bring this play to the Steel River audiences,” Director Leena Devlin said in the release. “This is such a sweet and funny play, all while challenging us to confront our own prejudices and biases and potentially even reevaluate our ideas of acceptance and inclusion.”

“The Cake” tells the story of a legendary North Carolina bakery. Della is overjoyed when her best friend’s daughter returns from New York to get married and asks Della to make her wedding cake. A sweet-natured Christian, Della is forced to re-examine her deeply held beliefs and her own marriage when she realizes there is not one bride, but two.  Faith, family, and frosting collide in this timely new play by Bekah Brunstetter, writer for the NBC hit “This Is Us.”

The show contains strong language and adult themes. The running time for this one-act show is approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. The opening night sponsor is Deborah Stimson-Snow. The 2023-2024 Season is sponsored by Scott and Susan Bentley.
