The Mercury’s Sound Off for Monday, Aug. 28
Depending on what study you believe, Social Security and Medicare are going to be broke within the next 5 to 10 years. The shortfalls are increasingly significant. Even though many of us paid into the Trust fund since our first jobs in our teenage years, we could have invested that money at 5% and made out far better. Besides that, I wonder why Welfare and Medicaid are never in trouble.

I am sure the MSM didn’t put on TV the ridiculous response our President had when he went to Maui. So embarrassing! He said no comment while on vacation, fell asleep at a dinner honoring the deceased then told yet another lie about a fire he had in his home which was debunked years ago! I am so sick of anyone saying what a good president he is, he is not!

Knock me over with a feather. Jake Tapper said, “I do think some of the political questions being raised by Republicans have merit.” My goodness, even Democrat propagandists like Jake are seeing the corruption. Jake even acknowledged that the Whistle Blowers are telling the truth, unlike Joe Biden.
Richard Paladino
Something can be politically motivated, and still be the right, correct thing to do. We prosecuted war with Germany because we didn’t like their politics and didn’t want them in charge (of us). That’s political motivation. Oh, we also had evidence of crime (aggression, etc.). Not all Americans agreed (then). How about today? Don’t tell me, “It’s not the same!” It’s just a matter of degree. (Is investigating Biden “politically motivated”? If not, why?)
You can lead a Democrat to knowledge but you can’t make him think for himself.

Electric vehicle owners have reported needing battery replacements costing $22,000 on cars less than 10 years old. For that cost, you could have bought a new Honda Civic. EV battery production emits far more CO2 than gas models, meaning EVs must be driven thousands of miles before they offset those extra emissions. But if you throw away the EV after such low mileage where’s the advantage in harmful CO2 emissions?
Truth Be Told
The Resident House Plant and his corrupt Administration are giving approximately $2M in one-time aid to the American people affected by the wildfires in Maui, while Hundreds of billions are sent to defend Deep State criminality in the Ukraine. This goes to show the American people just what the Deep State/Cabal/Democrats and RINOs think of us.

While you Trumpers decry the various charges brought against him, don’t blame the DOJ or FBI as being politically biased. The charges happen because of a delinquent Trump. I find it strange that so many support Trump. He has never done anything but makes charges against others; nothing positive.
He lost because he was a very poor choice.
Signs of Dementia — Irritability: Check! Confabulation (false memories): Check! Clumsiness: Check! Wandering off: Check! Confusion: Check! Slurred speech: Check! This isn’t funny anymore. Joe Biden is a danger to the US, and the World. He should’ve been removed by now.
Cholly
I am responding to Cato who is of the opinion that something shady is going on in the Hunter Biden case. He is certain US Attorney David Weiss was appointed “Special Council” by AG Garland to help him get off on charges. It is my understanding that Weiss was a Trump appointee. Can anyone else verify this? Alternative facts?
Lynn from NEPA Freedom Writers
The “Moderate” really loves Joe Biden. He thinks a guy who couldn’t get more than a couple of percents in previous tries at the presidency all of sudden got the “juice”, to the tune of more votes than any other candidate for president in history. Sorry, I find that to be sheer fantasy.
Jim Atlas
Why would Clarence Thomas need affirmative action, he has a cadre of radical right-wing sugar daddies to pay his way: The latest on Clarence Thomas’s undisclosed gifts from 4 billionaires, per @propublica:
38+ destination vacations; 26 private jet flights; 8 by helicopter; A dozen VIP passes to professional & college sporting events; 2 stays at luxury resorts in Florida & Jamaica. Radical Republicans are corrupt grifters through and through, just ask Jared and Ivanka.
Patriot54
Oh Patricia, do not comment on the price of gasoline unless you actually know what you are talking about. Yes, crude oil supply and demand dictate gas prices. Saudi Arabia, Russia, and our current president are currently restraining crude production so prices are 4.00. A look back to 2019, when people were traveling more than today, prices were 2,65/gallon. Prices are not always higher in the summer, so do your homework.
Ever heard that the coverup is worse than the crime? Well, in this case, Merrick Garland and Joe Biden keep digging a deeper hole. The bribery conspiracy that Joe and Hunter Biden committed was bad, but now Joe Biden and Merrick Garland appoint a special counsel to cover up the entire mess. The special counsel appointed has been investigating for 6 years and has a multitude of evidence but has done nothing. What a joke.
Jane Batdorf
Even if you dislike Trump, Fox, and Tucker Carlson, do yourself a favor and watch the current video of Tucker interviewing the fellow who was the chief of the Capitol Police on January 6th. The fellow also has a book out about what happened. Interesting stuff, it’s a lot of stuff that we haven’t been told before. Possibly, it wasn’t all Trump’s fault?
H. John
When are you Republicans going to understand that President Biden is your best hope for a Trump victory? Biden will still win by 3 million votes, as before, but if Trump is put into an election with a younger Democratic opponent it would be a landslide! Let’s just hope the election goes off before his incarceration begins.
Charlie
Rob Andrews, the 81 million felt the other candidate was so bad, they got out to vote. The lesser of 2 evils. L Carroll, I’m sure they can find his peers, a jury of 12 egotistical, lying bags of poo for the Trump Trials. Maybe our tax dollars would be better served to fix the RR crossing at the Hanover Street bridge than along the scenic Colebrookdale RR.
The Moderate
It is just amazing to hear Hillary Clinton and a host of CNN & MSNBC commentators continue to talk about the Russia Collusion Hoax and how Hillary won the 2016 election. But President Trump has been indicted for making allegedly false statements about the 2020 election. But then again we have men in women’s locker rooms and competing against women in sporting events and a Supreme Court Justice who doesn’t know what a woman is.
SES
The corruption and cover-up that we are witnessing at the highest level of government is unprecedented in our lifetime. The appointment of Delaware US Attorney David Weiss as Special Counsel to the Biden investigation is laughable — a slap in the face to the brave whistleblowers who have come forward and provided more than enough evidence to blow this case wide open. Instead, Weis will bury it and the Bidens will never be charged.
Greg Levengood
Because President Trump was indicted in Washington, DC, presumably over January 6, his lawyers now have subpoena powers. They issued subpoenas for materials from the ballyhooed January 6 committee. It turns out the committee destroyed videos, transcripts, text messages, etc. That is a crime! Where is the FBI raid on the Democrats? This is what is meant by a two-tiered justice system.
John Conrad
Hey Patriot54, when the coach of a professional football team gives a pep talk to his quarterback telling him to “find a way to get me 6 more points,” is that considered cheating or attempting to commit fraud? You’re hopeless!
Barney
To those defending Biden by saying nothing has been proven. No one pays you $20 million without expecting something in return. What might you imagine they expected from the Vice President of the United States?
Little Joe
People keep saying our country has never been more divided, but that seems unfair. I mean, really, what more did the Civil War have to do?
