The Mercury’s Sound Off for Sunday, Feb. 18
Once again we see the dangers of marijuana with the conviction of Jennifer Parker for driving under the influence of marijuana. Her life is ruined by her use of marijuana and Anthony Jonello’s life was cut short by her marijuana use. Haven’t we seen and read enough about the dangers of marijuana? No to recreational use of marijuana.

Tom M.’s comment with regard to school start times hit the nail on the proverbial head. In fact, Tom smashed that nail head right through a 2 x 4. No way kids will get a second more sleep time. “Recharge time,” yeah right, they need extra time to recharge their phones.
Jimbo the Juggler
As the government allocates billions for EVs another cost besides buying subsidies, building charging locations, battery plants, generating stations, and power lines the Highway Safety Commission discovered the highway guardrails are too weak for the heavy electric cars. I bet the next surprise is many roads won’t be up to that heavy load also. Wait until electric buses and tractor-trailers use them. Consequences?

This border crisis didn’t exist before Biden became President. This crisis is solely the responsibility of the Biden administration. Now they’re trying to deny responsibility. Biden is saying the border has been out of control for 10 years. But Mayorkas went before Congress and swore, under oath, that we had operational control of the border under Trump. Impeaching Mayorkas will send a clear message. The United States has been compromised. Time for heads to roll!
Righty Tighty
It’s incredible how many predictions by supposedly reputable people have gone awry. Yet we are turning our whole world upside down for a climate catastrophe that will never happen. The experts got it so wrong with Covid and we are supposed to believe all the BS of the looney tree-huggers that man can alter the climate. Yeah, I guess. If you repeat a lie often enough people start to believe it.
Stinger
The border and migration were the crisis du jour, but apparently not enough for the radical Republicans to actually want to address them with any kind of policy solutions, even their own. Don the con needs campaign fodder to fake that he may won it, low-IQ Republicans will swallow it up.
Patriot54
Jay Miller, bless your heart, unemployment numbers are complicated! The average workweek came in at 34.1 hours, which translates to a lot of part-time jobs. One-third of full-time jobs were in government! Those highly skilled productive jobs, LOL, will be on the tax-payers back forever! Bidenonomics has twenty percent inflation, in three years, baked into everything and it’s not going down!
Just the facts!
I feel sorry for all the illegal immigrants who die on their way to America. They’ll never get to experience the joy of being used by Democrats, then kicked to the curb and forgotten when they’re no longer useful. Just like what happens to Blacks and Jews every four years.
Barney
Democrats voted in unison to save Sec. Mayorkas from impeachment. Voters in PA 6 can thank Cartel Chrissy (Houlahan) for sitting on her ass while millions of illegal aliens continue to descend upon our country not to mention the countless fentanyl deaths her inaction has proliferated. You need only look at her voting record to realize the old adage that education is no substitute for common sense is as valid today as it ever was.
“Saturday Night Live” got more attention than they have gotten in decades when they mocked Donald Trump for misusing the term de-bank. Turns out the joke was on them because Trump used the term properly and they were wrong.
Billy G.
To all that say our southern border is broken. Our border is being run by means and methods that were introduced years ago. Unfortunately, we have more people who come to the US to live the American dream and due to the discourse in our political system. Immigration is a political ping-pong ball. Our lawmakers should do something instead of pushing it off to be a campaign point.
The Moderate
Democrat voters complaining about being overtaxed is like the Palestinians in Gaza complaining about their war casualties. Dems be tripp’n!
Butch
Joe, keep laughing — Freon gas was banned as a refrigerant in 2010. That’s the reason they can be dumped now. Dumping appliances with freon gas was restricted previously. That was the point. (ooh but you got me!) Of course, if you’d like, you can shill for the billionaire polluters. They love it when we little people are on their side. Who do you think is behind fighting climate change regulations?
KC
The Moderate doesn’t seem to understand that there’s only going to be 2 viable options in the 2024 presidential election — the indisputably most accomplished president in U.S. history (Trump), or the undeniably worst president in U.S. history (Biden). If you’re not supporting the former, you’re ipso facto supporting the latter. Chances are, this November the radically progressive “Moderate” is going to make the same mistake he made in 2020 and vote for Dopier Feckless Joe.
Otis
I’ve been waiting all week for the Sound Off radical leftists to comment on the special counsel’s findings that Joe Biden stole classified documents but is incompetent to stand trial for his crime. Surprise, surprise. Not a peep from the far-left lemmings. They’ll stick their heads in the sand and vote for Dementia Joe again.
When I was younger, I took acid. I would see things. Like beams of light. And I would hear sounds … that sounded an awful lot like car horns.
Bill Wilson
Joe Biden lied on April 25, 2023, during a speech in Washington, DC, when he claimed Biden claimed he was born in the same hospital his grandfather had died in two weeks prior. The Baltimore Sun says Biden’s grandfather died in Maryland over a year before Joe Biden was born.
Twenty-twenty
I know when Trump speaks his minions jump. The RNC chair is leaving cause he replacing her with a more MAGA nut and a big lie believer! Now he controls all donations. So beware of who you donate to.
JB in Limerick
Is it coincidental that at a time when parents are yanking kids from underperforming and toxic public schools, Democrats are expanding pre-K and kindergarten instruction? Not when one considers the financial support that their party receives from teacher unions. To counter public school abandonment and the numerical impact on the ranks of unionized educators, programs with transitory value are being manufactured. Data informs that this is particularly the case with pre-K.
M. Furlong
Walgreens pharmacy was accused of “racial discrimination” by a radical Congressional Democratic “Squad” member in Massachusetts after the pharmacy closed another location in Boston due to ongoing looting by local criminals. Most of whom had been previously arrested, but set free with no jail or fines. Typical Democrat. Seeing racism where racism doesn’t exist.
Tigger
KC must think the world is only as large as his/her brain’s limited exposure to reality. The US may have passed regulations limiting fluorocarbons and passed the virtue signaling Clean Air Act, but India, China, Russia, etc., the world’s biggest contributors to greenhouse emissions, didn’t. So no, the US didn’t fix the hole in the ozone layer nor did they eliminate acid rain. I could go on but you get the idea.
Missy Miss
Another day, another example of Radical MAGA hypocrisy. Rep. Maria Salazar (R-Fla.) got called out for routinely taking credit for delivering money to her district — after opposing the bills that provided that money. She voted against the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023. Now she’s taking credit for bringing money to her district. But of course, she says she “forgot” if she voted for it or not. Selective MAGA memory.
RealAmerica
I “read only” political commentary. Minninger, Levengood, Patriot 45, and Furlong have it right! But now to God and an answer to an unsigned letter. It is a fact that Jesus rose from the dead, witnessed by his Apostles and countless others. Their belief and faith were so strong that they would not deny this fact, all but John crucified instead at the hands of unbelievers and staying true to this witness of fact to the end.
A. Metz
Almost always it starts in California and likely the forecasted electricity increases for California are going to flow eastward. US News reports that California electric bills are going to go up $400 a year over the coming year. Isn’t Bidenomics great?
Jane Batdorf
Hey JB in Limerick. The “border crisis” was pretty much under control when Biden got into office. Then he had to stick his nose in it, and like everything else he’s touched, he screwed that up also.
Remember this, this administration had mandatory shots or you lose your job, your kids staying home for 2 years, Afghanistan, demoralizing our military, Ukraine, Israel, open borders, high prices, wanting more racial divide, DOJ and FBI continually going after political opponents, J6 prisoners who weren’t even there, BLM and Antifa who were never arrested, empty shelves or locked up ones … and you say Biden is doing a good job? Remember come time to vote!
