The Mercury’s Sound Off for Sunday, May 19

by for medianews group

The May 10 Mercury front page shows: Abortion Rally, VP Harris talks “reproductive freedom.” Next to it ‘Man held for trial in wife’s homicide’ accused of fatally stabbing woman inside her home. What’s the difference between stabbing a woman inside her home, and using an instrument to end the life of an unborn baby inside her mother’s womb? One is charged with a crime and the other is said to be exercising a human right!

Overdevelopment in New Hanover Township is running rampant. High-density housing plans around infrastructure that can no longer support the added burden of an increasing populace. And yet the commissioners vote to give the manager a 27% raise. More than townships with a similar population. My taxes keep going up even with an increased tax base. Whatever happened to our local leadership?

The Moderate

I just can’t get over it. Latest Bidenomics news is that wholesale prices rose to a 6% annual rate in April. Another indicator is that Bidenomics is working to raise inflation rates to new highs for all of us. Lunchbox Joe is working hard to keep us all poor.

As a taxpaying Pottstown borough resident, if I let people camp on my lawn indefinitely and had garbage piled up high do you think the borough would have a problem with it? Most definitely, yes. But when a big, scary corporation like Norfolk Southern does it on their tax-exempt land the borough lets it slide. And guess who pays for all the emergency service calls to this property?

Analysts at MSNBC were perplexed by a poll showing that Independents think President Biden is a much greater threat to democracy than former President Trump. Their TDS prevents them from seeing the obvious. Biden willfully ignores both the law and the Supreme Court. Biden also weaponized our government agencies to attack his political enemies including Trump, devout Catholics, and concerned parents. This is the unmistakable behavior of a dictator.

Robert Minninger

Reminder to radical Republicans, Biden only needs to win 3 of the 5 battleground states in 2024. In 2020, Biden swept the big battleground states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona and Georgia. Don the con effectively has to peel at least three of those states away from Biden in order to pull off an Electoral College victory. Not going to happen.

Ohio is in the process of trying to clean up its voter rolls. Turns out they found 137 non-citizens on their rolls. That is a big deal as many of us remember the 2000 election, the margin of victory in Florida was only 500 votes or so. Every citizen should want voter ID, correct voter rolls, and vote integrity. More voting is not necessarily the goal, but rather guaranteeing one vote per US citizen should be the goal.

The article on homelessness is heartening but the answer is not throwing more money at it as Sen. Pennycuick mentioned. That seems to be the problem with most programs, throwing more money in but not following how it is being used. I’m sure a lot of the homeless are capable of working but need help. Did anyone ever notice the food giveaways and the nice cars in line? Free is easier than working.

12 companies control over 550 consumer goods, and 8 companies control oil and gas prices. But nobody asks what the GOP’s plan is to control price gouging and lower inflation. Sheep like Billy G just keep repeating the same mantra: Biden, Biden. Give some concrete examples of what you’d change! Oh right – you don’t have any.

Chicago public schools spend $21,000/student annually, $7,000 above the national average. For this, only 22% of 8th-grade students are proficient in reading. If local “fair funding” advocates cared about kids, they would welcome competition and support merit pay for the best instructors. What they have perpetuated is a system lacking in accountability which exploits children as useful pawns. The Chicago teachers union president? Sends her child to a private school.

Let’s compare KC’s complaint about the $25 million judgment against Trump University versus the $160 Billion in loan forgiveness (according to Forbes) that Joe Biden has taken from taxpayers (you and me) to give to folks who don’t want to pay their loans back — directly in violation of a SCOTUS ruling. Where do I go to get my tax dollars back? Who can I sue for that?

Dan Fields

Trump Derangement Syndrome, it’s tough to put it behind you. We have average-intelligence people who were trained by the media to hate Trump. They have lived over 3 years under the Biden Regime, and see the results but are still fed anti-Trump rhetoric on a daily basis. And somehow think everything is Trump’s fault without taking a good look at Joe Biden’s world. It’s difficult to comprehend!!

Israel offered the “Palestinians” their own state on 5 different occasions. Each time, the Palestinians rejected the offer, often violently. Therefore, if you are interested in peace in the Middle East, maybe the answer is not to pressure Israel to make yet another offer of a state to the Palestinians. But maybe the answer is to pressure the Palestinians to accept the existence of a Jewish state and the Jewish people.

Five times (1824, 1876, 1888, 2000, 2016), Presidents were elected who’d lost the popular vote. Oddly, they were all Republicans. Their opponents all conceded. In 2020, Trump lost both popular and electoral votes, but refuses to acknowledge it, intimating he will not accept a 2024 loss either. Apparently, it’s only fair if he wins. As kids, we’d shun such a poor loser. Maybe kids are smarter than some adults. The Electoral College must go.

Hopefully many people read The Mercury article highlighting Scams relating to leasing apartments. Pass the article around to elderly parents, or others that may fall victim to these scams. But the troubling thing is that law enforcement isn’t doing more. The scammers are “asking” to be caught by advertising. With the ability to subpoena phone numbers and IP addresses, these should be easy prosecutions.

Michael Stern

NY trial week five: Republican political candidates arrive in court wearing matching suits and ties (like they are going to the junior prom). On the courthouse steps they beg for money. The criminal defendant stands in the background with a thumbs up. You can’t make this stuff up!

Jay Miller

Under Joe Biden’s leadership, the world is in chaos and America has collapsed economically, socially, and lawfully. But KC wants to focus on socializing our world-class capitalist system and how private corporations do business. No concerns with inflation, illegal migration, fentanyl deaths, killing babies, or how the Democrats have morally bankrupted the US. Time for ice cream?

Brandon

As the polls worsen for Biden he is getting more desperate. On CNN with Erin Burnett, Joe Biden claimed inflation was 9% when he came into office. It was at 1.4%. Biden probably even believes his lies.

They should announce a sequel to “Groundhog Day” and then just re-release the original.

Bill Wilson

The “Moderate” was at it again. Real moderates, like me, understand that Biden is the personification of his administration. We know Biden can’t tie his own shoes and has someone tying them for him. Biden also has someone carrying out the prosecutions of Trump. MAGA is standing strong against anti-Semitism. I haven’t seen a single radical Democrat like Jay Miller, Lefty, or Patriot54 post anything against the racist college protests, nor has “The Moderate.” I wonder why.

Jane “The Real Moderate” Batdorf

Sane legal voters with IQs over 70 know the point of the Democrat’s indictments against Trump wasn’t to get convictions. Let me explain to the Sound Off progressives who don’t hurdle the 70 IQ score; The point was to create bad publicity, drain finances and keep Trump off the campaign trail. Any guilty verdicts in these corrupt trials will be overturned. And yet here we are with Donald Trump trouncing Genocide Joe in the polls.

Patriot45/47

I hate to give advice to the Joe Biden campaign, but if they really, really wanted to beat Trump, what Biden needs to do is indict Trump just one more time.

Billy G.

A young friend asked how my Bride and I stayed married for 53 years. I said, ” We grew up in a time where, if something was not working or broken, we did what was needed to fix it instead of throwing it away. The same holds true for a marriage.”
