The Mercury’s Sound Off for Wednesday, Aug. 9
The Biden administration announced that it will not begin refilling the nation’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) as previously promised. It said the effort to refill the SPR may have to wait until Biden’s prospective second term. President Biden’s behavior is extremely reckless! After drawing down the SPR, Biden is planning to leave it at a 40-year low level. He’s afraid that the refill will lead to higher gasoline prices and hurt his reelection chances.

Scotland cut down 15.7 million trees to make room for a wind turbine farm. Let that sink in.
A peer-reviewed Swiss study funded by independent investigators and conducted from 12/21-2/22 compared the effects of Moderna mRNA boosters vaccines on 777 patients with those of an equal-sized control group. Found? 2.8%, 1 in 35, of the vaccinated, were diagnosed with myocardial damage. Noteworthy? Those so affected were warned of the potential for cardiac arrest and advised not to exercise. This should be headline news and subject to further investigation.

Fitch downgraded the US economy on August 1st and almost on cue the Democrats blamed Donald Trump. Trump hasn’t been in office for 3 years people! The real reason for the downgrade is the runaway, irresponsible, unsustainable spending by the Biden Administration. It took the United States 200 years to accumulate $1.8 Trillion in debt, but the Biden administration doubled that number in just 2½ years.

Bicker all you want about “climate change” and whether it’s real or not. But please refrain from implying that it’s due to anything remotely caused by man. There isn’t a single independent scientific study that proves human activities influence changes in Earth’s climate.

Friday, Aug. 4, 2023, Mercury article regarding murder suspect on trial for killing his pregnant former partner. This guy should have been taken off the streets years ago but Democratic State Sen. Katie Muth thinks that taking guns from the people will solve this problem. Here’s his record. https://ujsportal.pacourts.us/Report/CpCourtSummary?docketNumber=CP-46-CR-0002430-2022&dnh=FXXrjnqEcrrASinYkVtC0g%3D%3D

Nobody talks about the miracle of Jesus having 12 close friends in his 30s.

After it became public on the afternoon of January 6 that the Vice President would not fraudulently alter the election results, a large and angry crowd — including many individuals whom Trump had deceived into believing the Vice President could and might change the election results — violently attacked the Capitol and halted the proceeding. As violence ensued, Trump and co-conspirators exploited the disruption by redoubling efforts to levy false claims of election fraud

Arresting people for saying our elections are rigged seems like a horrible way to convince people our elections are not rigged.

The Sunday Mercury was a treat! Rich Scarcella had 3 articles in the Sports section. I enjoy his writing and especially his coverage of Penn State Football. Kudos to The Mercury for carrying his work.

We can now see clearly how Joe lied about Hunter’s and Joe’s activities. We can clearly see how MSM and social media have protected and have had no interest in investigating any of this. We can clearly see how the DOJ and FBI have tried to ignore their deeds and protect the Bidens. We can clearly see how 50 intelligent agency alumni have tried to protect and dismiss the Biden story. Why is that?

With the 2024 election within sight, Biden’s marketing team is trying desperately to re-brand the old coot as a vibrant, competent, mentally fit political figure, when in fact the world sees him for what he is – a decrepit political has-been that falls off bikes and probably wears diapers.

Jane, a single mother of 3 and assistant manager of distribution for Anheuser-Busch, was laid off. It gladdens my heart that beer-swilling misanthropes like me can demonstrate our power and make her lose her job because her bosses chose not to bow to our cultural beliefs. See? Go “woke” go broke.
Junior, obviously you don’t have any young children or you might not make the statement you don’t want right-wing women telling your child what to read!! I know I wouldn’t be happy if my kindergarten or first-grade child brought home a book showing how men have sex together. That would be for me to explain when they were much older if asked. That’s not right or left that is good parenting.

Biden’s dementia is in play! Experienced the horror for 11-plus years! Jill Biden should be ashamed, but she’s not! Jill should be charged with elder abuse! Biden is unfit for the most demanding job on the planet! Biden is not in charge! Others elected to nothing running the show! Then there’s Jon Fetterman who hid disability from the voters! Both are unfit for duty!
Just the facts!
If anyone really believes thermometers are the only reliable way to determine temperatures, and recorded temperatures and climate are only reliably available from the past 50 yrs., or even since the 1700s? Please take a physics or chemistry, or geology class. Or use Google, or maybe just stop listening to right-wing gaslighters. My Goodness. Sometimes I can hardly believe the things people write as if they are facts.

Emily L, sometimes your edgy sarcasm gets wasted on a few. In July 2019 the US produced about 12M barrels a day and exported 3M last year. In 2022 the US produced about the same and exported 3.9M barrels a day. We import almost 8M barrels a day, most of the lower-quality crude. With oil companies, profits come first.

Patriot54 must be on Donald Trump’s donor list. How else would he/she know that The Donald sent out a fundraising request “immediately” after he was indicted?

People here seem upset that our resident humorists “don’t write their own material.” I’d be happy to see Wilson and Fitch giving attribution for their jokes once Minninger and Furlong and the rest start footnoting their regurgitations.

History repeats itself again and again and again. The outcome is always the same.

Recently at the High Street Car Show, I had the pleasure of spending time with a teenager on a mobility scooter. While his parents stood by he explained he has cerebral palsy, but obviously loves cars. His folks waited patiently as I spent about 30 minutes talking to this young man about my speedster. After they departed I thought, “How lucky am I to be able to spend time with that family on a Saturday night?” Life is good!
