Upper Merion schools superintendent challenges Kansas City area superintendent in Superbowl wager 

UPPER MERION — Upper Merion Area School District Superintendent Dr. Tamara Smith has challenged the  superintendent of a Kansas City School District to a friendly Superbowl wager and enlisted the  help of students to send her message

A native Philadelphian and lifelong Eagles fan, Dr. Smith has enjoyed watching the energy build across the district as the Eagles have advanced through the playoffs and into the Superbowl.

“I thought a liIle wager could be a fun way to continue to extend that excitement,” said Dr. Smith.

A quick scan of websites and social media pages of Kansas City area school districts led Dr. Smith to the Park Hill School District, which seemed to have a similarly enthusias/c approach to  cheering on their home team.

Smith was joined in the Upper Merion High School gymnasium this week by students from across the district’s schools, including band members and cheerleaders, who helped her to record a video challenge that has been shared with Kansas City.

Here’s Dr. Smith’s challenge:

If the Eagles win the Superbowl, she will send an Eagles shirt and cheesesteaks to Park Hill’s Superintendent, Dr. Mike Kimbrel, who has agreed to wear it while eating a cheesteak – and  share photographic proof on the district’s social media pages. If the Chiefs win, Park Hill will send a Chiefs shirt and some Kansas City barbecue to Upper Merion, where Dr. Smith will in turn do the same.

“I sincerely hope I do not have to eat my words,” said Dr. Smith. “But no maIer what, we are so  proud of our hometown team, and we love to come together as a school district to cheer them.”
