Weis Markets donates $200,000 to Paralyzed Veterans of America
Weis Markets recently donated $200,000 to Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA). The organization is the only nonprofit organization in the country that is dedicated solely to supporting veterans with spinal cord injuries, disorders, and diseases.
The donation was raised through a four-week in-store fundraising campaign in October across Weis Markets’ geographic footprint, as well as a corporate donation. The funds will support Paralyzed Veterans of America’s mission to assure injured veterans have access to specialized, quality health care, meaningful careers, and their earned benefits, according to a press release.
“PVA is a voice for our nation’s heroes, helping them get access to the highest quality care they deserve — and we couldn’t be more proud to support such a deserving cause,” Maria Rizzo, vice president of marketing and advertising for Weis Markets, said in a statement. “As a company founded by a U.S. veteran and who employs thousands of Americans who have served their country, we look forward to continuing to grow our partnership.”
Robert Thomas, national president of Paralyzed Veterans of America, and a U.S. Army Veteran, said Weis’ continued support of the organization “is truly overwhelming and deeply appreciated.”
“Since 2017, they have raised nearly $3 million dollars for PVA, and every cent has gone directly towards helping us provide life-changing programs and services that improve the lives of disabled veterans across America,” Thomas said.
Paralyzed Veterans of America is a 501(c)(3) non-profit with more than 70 offices and 33 chapters, and works to ensure veterans receive the benefits earned through service to the nation; monitors their care in VA spinal cord injury units; and funds research and education in the search for a cure and improved care for individuals with paralysis, according to the release. The Sunbury-based Weis operates 197 stores in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, West Virginia and Virginia, including 12 locations in Berks and Montgomery counties.
