Winter weather advisory for southeastern PA, southern NJ for snow Tuesday into Wednesday

A familiar refrain in 2025: The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for southeastern Pennsylvania and southern New Jersey.

It will be in effect 4 p.m. Tuesday through 7 a.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather service said Monday afternoon that snow could begin in the region as early as 1 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The heaviest snowfall is expected from 4 p.m. Tuesday and 4 a.m. Wednesday.

“Snowfall totals across southeastern Pennsylvania, central New Jersey as well as northern Delaware and the remainder of southern New Jersey will generally be between 2 to 4 inches but locally higher amounts will be possible, particularly southeast of I-95,” the Monday afternoon NWS forecasters discussion stated.

North of I-95 and south of I-78 could expect 1-3 inches.

They noted the Tuesday evening commute and Wednesday morning commutes could be impacted.

AccuWeather was predicting 3-6 inches for the Philadelphia area and just and inch or two for the Reading area.

“Low pressure will organize and develop over the Gulf Coast states, and a warm front extending out from this low will lift through the Mid-Atlantic,” the NWS said. “A secondary low will form over the Mid-Atlantic coast late Tuesday, and this low passes southeast of Delmarva and New Jersey Tuesday night.

“So snowfall looks to begin around midday with dry conditions lingering into the afternoon for areas further north.”

The low is forecast to be in the mid 20s Tuesday night with a high in the mid 30s Wednesday.

There is only a brief break and then another low pressure system moves through the area Wednesday into Thursday bringing a mixed bag of precipitation that will eventually taper off into rain, the forecast said.

“Rain, snow and freezing rain, possibly mixed with sleet before 1 a.m., then rain, possibly mixed with snow between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. (Thursday), then rain after 4 a.m.,” the NWS forecast said. A low just below freezing is predicted for Wednesday night.
