Women’s Basketball: Jailyn Banks boosts Belmont over Villanova in WBIT

Jailyn Banks scored nine of her game-high 25 points in the fourth quarter as No. 3 seed Belmont downed No. 4 Villanova, 66-57, in the semifinals of the WBIT Tournament Monday.

Maddie Webber led Villanova with 18 points. Jasmine Bascoe tallied 10 points, five assists and five rebounds. Danae Carter had six points and eight rebounds. The Wildcats shot just 20.7 percent from 3-point range (6-for-29) and were 5-for-24 from the field (20.8 percent) in the fourth quarter.

It’s the second straight year the Wildcats (21-16) have come close to this title. Villanova beat Penn State in the semifinals last year before falling to Illinois in the final at Indianapolis’ Hinkle Fieldhouse.

Kendall Holmes scored 14 points for the Bruins. Kenda Cheesman paired 11 points with 10 rebounds.
